Professional History
Undergraduate Degree
Russell Gribbell attended the University of Cincinnati (UC), and graduated with an B.B.A in Information Systems. Russell originally spent his first two years at UC in Chemical Engineering before changing majors, and received a good background in mathematic and scientific principles that have served him well as a patent attorney. Russell made Dean’s list several times at UC.
IT Professional
Russell was an IT professional for several years before he decided to go to law school. After graduating from UC, Russell moved to New Jersey to work for Sonoco CorrFlex. He was in charge of IT for four Sonoco facilities along the east coast. His first project upon relocating was to figure out how to input pages of data into an industrial laser system for etching contact lens packaging. This project would continue for his entire tenure in New Jersey, and was very successful. He often would work with a software developer in Europe who had designed the original laser system software.
After moving back to Cincinnati, Russell worked for a couple of IT managed services providers (MSP). First, at Logicalis Integrated Solutions, Russell worked with over 300 companies on a diverse range of technologies, such as Cisco network devices, Windows servers, and several backup server solutions. He also created technical documentation, as well as process and procedure documentation. Later, at Agency Technologies, Inc., Russell worked with dozens of local firms around the Cincinnati region. He also led the service team and mentored team members.
Russell’s last IT position was with a charter school, which was associated with a worldwide system of elite schools. Russell upgraded the local servers into a virtual environment, ran the local computer testing hardware and software system, and was the test coordinator for the annual Ohio state tests. The test coordinator duties involved studying the relevant Ohio state laws, presenting these laws in an easily-understood form to the teaching staff, and ensuring the staff complied with the laws during and after state testing, including self-reporting to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) if any testing irregularities occurred.
Law School
Russell attended Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University (NKU). Russell was a night student and also continued working full-time as an IT professional. Russell was on the Northern Kentucky Law Review for two years, first as a researcher, then as Notes Editor. Russell contributed to Practicing Law Institute’s Legal Guide to the Business of Marijuana, by James T. O’Reilly. He also contributed to the U.S. District Court Southern District of Ohio Pro Se handbook. Russell excelled in his legal studies, graduating Cum Laude.
During his third year of law school, Russell began working at the Gribbell Law Firm as a patent intern full-time. In the summer between his third and fourth (final) year of law school, Russell passed the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) exam to become a registered Patent Agent. Russell graduated and soon passed the Ohio bar, thereby becoming eligible to be a registered PTO Patent Attorney. After graduating from Chase Law School, Russell remained working at the Gribbell Law Firm and now is a member of that LLC.
Patent Attorney
Russell’s patent work at the Gribbell Law Firm has involved working with laser receivers for Trimble, Inc., electronic lockboxes for SentriLock, LLC, and FUSION® tools for Kyocera Senco Industrial Tools, Inc. He has also worked on other mechanical, electrical, and computer technologies for these and other clients. Russell also handles trademark applications. His prosecution work involves both foreign and U.S. applications.
